This Cheekwood Engagement session was one of those sessions that I couldn’t wait to get home and edit. It was an overcast day that was teasing us all afternoon with the possibility of some light rain. Jason and Emma are having their October wedding at Cheekwood later this year, so it only felt fitting that we do their engagement photos on site as well. They’ll tie the knot under the beautiful wisteria arbor, so for engagement photos we focused on shooting in other areas throughout the gardens to give them a variety of photos and locations.
A Cheekwood engagement session is truly a photographer’s dream. It’s well kept gardens are sprawling and we happened to do this engagement session while the tulips were in full bloom, which presented a beautiful, colorful backdrop for some shots.
Jason and Emma were so great about interacting with each other throughout the session. I love when couples feel like they can be themselves during a session. It’s not easy to let your guard down when there’s someone with a camera documenting your every move. To help with this, I focus on giving prompts instead of strict poses, which allows couples to position themselves in ways that feel more natural to them and ensures the photos don’t look inauthentic or overly posed. Jason and Emma made each other laugh and didn’t take the session too seriously, which I always appreciate.
I cannot wait to photograph these two again again at Cheekwood this fall!
